You can wipe your interior panels with a mixture of 50% water and 50% vinegar. You can add some dish liquid soap if the mixture isn’t enough to remove the smell. Air it out and make sure to spray some deodorizer in the vents because cigarette smoke can stick anywhere. Also replace your cabin filter every 4-6 months.
All sorts of dirt and the smell that goes with it can get into your car mat. One good way to clean it is to remove them, give them a wash, and a thorough vacuum. If the smell is kind of persistent, sprinkle some baking soda and let it sit for about 30 minutes before you vacuum it again. That should take care of that odor.
Make sure you check everywhere for clutter because you never know if something hidden is causing that smell. Check under and between the seats, check every pocket, glove box, cup holder, and boot as well. As much as possible, don’t keep any trash inside the car to keep it smelling fresh. Our tip is to remove all rubbish each time you get out of the car!
A good ol’ carwash can help in removing any dirt or stains on your car that may be causing that nasty smell. Some bird droppings and dead bugs here and there can actually stink at some point so it’s best to clean them up.
Cars are closed most of the time and this means dirt and odor can get trapped inside. One quick way of freshening up your vehicle is to open the doors and windows so you can air it out.
Activated charcoal and ground-up coffee can be good deodorizers. They can absorb and neutralize those harsh smells and make them go away. Charcoal can also prevent mold from building up inside your car. Leave an open jar on the floor of the car or in the centre console overnight for a few nights to help with any smells.
Dirt, dust, and gunk can accumulate in your air conditioning system which can cause nasty mildew odors inside your car. If you feel like you’ve checked all areas and you still get that smell, then it must be coming from your AC. If this is the case, it is best to have the cabin filter replaced and the AC checked and serviced (if required) by professionals.
If after doing everything and there’s still a lingering weird smell in your car, you may want to bring them to a mechanic for thorough checking. It may be possible that your air filter is clogged and needs replacement or there maybe some kind of leak under the hood.
